520 |a The travels of Peter the Iberian from 475 until his death in December 491 bear witness to his long struggle to defend antichalcedonianism. After his return to Palestine in the hope, which turned out to be vain, of recovering his see of Maiuma Peter was constantly moving from place to place to visit the monophysite communities in the diocese as their "patriarch". As from 482 he was forced to cease his visitations since the Palestinian monophysites rallies to Zeno's Henotikon, whereas he rejected it. His inactivity is revealed by his journey to Arabia (485-486) for health reasons and his long stay at Thauatha (486-489). Despite everything he still preferred to flee to Phoenicia in 489 rather than rally to the Henotikon. His slow return journey to Palestine (490-491) was an opportunity for one last effort to spread his ideas by recruiting rhetors at Beirut (in 490) and his project to found a koinobion which was intended to be a centre for training future monophysite controversialists.
