| Zusammenfassung: | The article presents information on the works of French monk and theological writer Saint Bernard of Clairvaux. His work also includes speculative theology. He had a proven capacity for vigorous and precise thought on the Christian mysteries. But his teaching is not scholastic in the sense that it is not systematic. He was an intelligent man, but not an intellectual. Bernard is never bookish, even when he draws on other texts for ideas. The first and most important of his sources in the light of which he was his own experience. The whole of Saint Bernard's theology is an analysis of his own monastic experience. Bernard's practice, the existential character of his entire message, is revealed in his use of Scripture. |
