Zu diesen zählen ganz zentral die markanten Bauten des schweizerisch-französischen Architekten Le Corbusier im Stil des Brutalismus. Die Gebäude zeichnen sich durch ihre betontypische Formbarkeit aus. Ulrich Engel zeigt am Beispiel des französischen Dominikanerklosters La Tourette, wie die spiritualitätstheologische Erneuerung des dominikanischen Ordenslebens ihre baugestalterische Form gefunden hat. Die Klosterarchitektur aus Glas (Licht) und Beton (Dunkel) ist dabei zugleich Ausdruck und Herausforderung für eine kommunitäre Glaubensexistenz in der Spätmoderne. | ||

These efforts were able to draw on valuable pre-conciliar reform initiatives, including innovative sacred architecture. These include the striking buildings by the Swiss-French architect Le Corbusier in the style of Brutalism. The buildings are characterized by their typical concrete formability. Ulrich Engel uses the example of the French Dominican monastery La Tourette to show how the spirituality-theological renewal of Dominican religious life found its architectural form. The monastery architecture of glass (light) and concrete (dark) is both an expression and a challenge for a communitarian existence of faith in late modernity. | ||
