Denne artikkelen fremhever at begge tradisjonene kan forsones og forklares dersom man tar i betraktning Müntzers historiesyn, hvor en fremhevelse av apostelkirken står særlig sterkt: Müntzers sosiallære og eskatologi fremstår således som retoriske henvisninger til et fortidig og svunnet ideal, heller enn en radikal form for teologi. Avslutningsvis formaner artikkelen til en analyse av andre såkalte «radikale» reformasjonsteologer fra et liknende perspektiv.NøkkelordReformasjonshistorieThomas Müntzerhistoriefortolkningapostoliske idealer From the 1500s onwards, historiography on Thomas Müntzer has largely centred around two extremes: He is regarded either in line with the Wittenberg-reformers’ branding of him as a “Schwärmer” whose theology contained distinct apocalyptic traits, or alternatively as a form of “proto-communist”. This article proposes that both traditions could be mitigated by reference to Müntzer’s analysis of history, which centred around the Apostolic Church. His eschatological and social thinking thus appears more as a rhetorical reference to a past and now lost ideal rather than a radical form of new theology. As a conclusion, the article invites further study of other so-called “radical” reformers with a similar focus on their relationship to past ideals. |
