La croyance en la métempsychose de certains philosophes de l’Antiquité montre que l’idée d’une continuité spirituelle entre les êtres humains et les animaux existait dans l’Antiquité grecque. L’idée existait-elle aussi chez certains rédacteurs des textes bibliques ? L’auteur examine le cas de Qohélet 3,1621. Après une mise en contexte historicocritique du livre de Qohélet, il procédera à une analyse comparative entre Qohélet 3,1621 et l’antispécisme de Peter Singer afin de voir si la Bible ne pourrait pas, à l’instar de certaines philosophies grecques, inspirer un plus grand respect des animaux. | ||

Some animal advocates argue that the rise of speciesism in the current animal rights movement and in the ecological crisis embodies an ancient phenomenon that dates back to Greek Antiquity. The belief in metempsychosis held by some ancient philosophers shows that the idea of a spiritual continuity between human beings and animals existed in Greek Antiquity. Did the idea also exist among writers of the biblical texts? The author reviews the case of Qohelet 3:16-21. After a historical and critical contextualization of the book of Qohelet, he will proceed to a comparative analysis between Qohelet 3:16-21 and Peter Singer’s anti-speciesism in order to examine if the Bible, akin to certain Greek philosophies, could inspire a greater respect for animals. | ||
