Description
Summary:Liberalism in relation to the clergy has been studied in some specific aspects. However, its repression through the application of ecclesiastical justice has not been analysed so far, nor has it been focused on the case of Seville. Thus, we have investigated in these pages how the judicial apparatus of the Archbishopric of Seville acted against the liberal attitudes of the clergy and also of other individuals who, despite not being linked to the Church, were judged in this court. In addition to the treatment of the different cases presented, two very singular issues are included in these pages: the first deals with the secret liberal library of a priest and the second with the celebration of a parish procession in honour of Riego.
