總結:Psalm 82 plays a major role in the debate about monotheism because it declares prima vista nothing less than the death of the other gods. After clarifying its historical-critical tradition within the Old Testament, I analyze the early Christian reception of Psalm 82 in Jerome’s Homilies on the Psalms and, finally, compare both waysof interpreting it. By understanding the םיהלא(vv. 1b, 6a) as earthly judges, rather than as members of a heavenly court as normally assumed by modern interpreters, Jerome’s interpretation of Psalm 82 offers us not only a model that is very different from the standard reading of this text among most exegetes today, but also one which provides a point of critique within the church.
