C’est à un effort réflexif de l’intelligence de la foi qu’en appelle Ortigues, puisant dans l’idée de culture, tacitement issue de sa connaissance du culturalisme américain (savoir social « de pointe » dans ces premières années 1950), le socle d’une nécessaire conscience culturelle de soi. Ce texte fonctionne dès lors comme le premier jalon d’un itinéraire philosophique qui conduira cet auteur vers la mise au centre de l’histoire critique du projet d’une philosophie de la religion. | ||
| 520 | |a Within the framework of problematizing the relations between theology and the social sciences, the 1952 text by Edmond Ortigues entitled ‘Lettre à Rome’ appears to be a decisive document: the young theologian, in difficult circumstances, argues in favor of a historical and sociological renewal of the ecclesiastical doctrine and practice which are a hindrance to the life and religious commitment of Catholics, and expecially of clerics. Ortigues calls for a reflexive effort of intelligence of faith, looking to the idea of culture, tacitly emerging from his acquaintance with American culturalism (the ‘cutting edge’ of social knowledge in the 1950s), the foundation of a necessary cultural consciousness of oneself. This text can thus serve as a first step in a philosophical itinerary leading the author towards putting historical criticism in the centre of a project for the philosophy of religion. | ||
