It shows that neglecting the specific 'Qur'anic language' leads to serious misunderstandings (e.g. ignoring the discovery of the hermeneutical category of 'ambiguity' elaborated in the Qur'an). Above all, it leads to the disregard of essential 'subtexts', such as the existential relation between the Christian religion and the Temple (cult), which the Qur'an constructs. Therefore, an important category such as the 'animated temple' (empsychos naos) is not even taken into account, even if it is reflected in neighboring religious traditions (like Greek and Syrian). A comparative theology that works without hermeneutical reflection, but above all without the liturgical orality of the Qur'an, is strongly impeded when dealing with the most important Qur'anic questions. Nevertheless, the two authors’ considerations will be of high interest for seekers of ecumenical approaches within the Qur'an. | ||
