AB I collegi aperti in Francia ebbero vita travagliata, sia per motivi contingenti, sia per effetto dei rivolgimenti politici che segnarono la storia di quella nazione, sia per motivi interni, per essere stati per più decenni e in maniera discontinua legati all’area piemontese, formando quella che nella storia dell’Ordine viene chiamata “Provincia Piemontese-gallica”.
