Simulac. fr. 351 F Smith, 14-20)? Il presente studio mira ad indagare l’interesse di Porfirio nel trattato Περὶ ἀγαλμάτων (Sui simulacri) per l’allegoresi di immagini, vocaboli e miti legati alla sfera misterica e misteriosofica e che racchiudono al loro interno verità sulla natura del divino e del cosmo. L’analisi si muove all’interno sia del più ampio quadro della pratica allegorica porfiriana che dello sfondo storico e religioso in cui l’opera si inserisce, esaminando secondo il metodo storico-comparativo anche il livello della ricezione e trasmissione cristiana (Eusebio, Praeparatio Evangelica). Hide and unveil: is the attempt to depict the invisible through the visible a contradiction (Porph. Simulac. fr. 351 F Smith, 14-18)? The contribution aims at investigating Porphyry’s interest in the treatise Περὶ ἀγαλμάτων (On images) for the allegorical interpretation of images, terms and myths variously linked with the mysteries and encapsulating truths on the nature of the divine and of the cosmos. The scope of this study falls within the broader discussion of Porphyry’s use of allegorical exegesis but also includes the specific historical and religious background of the treatise. Besides, the Christian reception and transmission of the work is explored through a focus on Eusebius’ Praeparatio Evangelica on the basis of a comparative analysis. |
