Nell’importante prologo dell’opera, Alano riprende i capisaldi del suo pensiero, quali sono espressi all’inizio delle sue opere maggiori (Summa ‘Quoniam homines’, Anticlaudianus, Regule celestis iuris), in cui delinea quali siano gli scopi e i significati della ratio. È sulla base di tali fondamenti che egli, da un lato, respinge le argomentazioni dell’Ebraismo non in quanto accuse irrazionali, bensì fondate su un cattivo e infido uso della ratio, e, dall’altro, conferma la fede cristiana come l’unica razionale, cioè universale e capace di argomentazioni autenticamente metafisiche. | ||
| 520 | |a Written by Alanus ab Insulis during his long permanence in Languedoc, in the years of his intellectual maturity, the De fide catholica consists of four books, aiming at refuting the heresies then spreading in southern France (especially Catharism), together with Islām and, in the third book, Judaism. In the prologue, a key part of the treaty, Alan recalls the main tenets of his philosophy, such as are found in his other major works (Summa ‘Quoniam homines’, Anticlaudianus, Regule celestis iuris), defining the scope and the meaning of ratio. On these intellectual foundations, he embarks in the confutation of Judaism’s objections against Christianism, which he sees not as irrational accusations, but as a devious misunderstanding of ratio: in this way, he reaffirms Christianism as the only rational faith, universal in its reaching and capable of truly metaphysical arguments. | ||
