| Summary: | Hope in the Old Testament is based on a trusting relationship with God rather than a definite temporal expectation. The Hebrew roots, such as קוה ("expect" or "hope") and בטח ("trust"), reveal a hope more oriented towards the act of relying on God. Hope takes the form of promises in patriarchal history and the prophets added an eschatological dimension, linking the present to future divine promises. Gradually, hope becomes spiritualized, culminating in the expectation of God himself as the ultimate object. This mutation illustrates a shift from material hope to a profound spiritual quest. L'espérance dans l'Ancien Testament repose sur une relation de confiance avec Dieu plutôt que sur une attente temporelle définie. Les racines hébraïques, telles que קוה (" attendre " ou " espérer ") et בטח (" confiance "), révèlent une espérance davantage orientée vers l'acte de s'en remettre à Dieu. L'espérance prend la forme de promesses dans l'histoire patriarcale et les prophètes ajoutent une dimension eschatologique, reliant le présent aux promesses divines futures. Progressivement, l'espérance se spiritualise, culminant dans l'attente de Dieu lui-même comme objet ultime.
