|a The article presents a Girardian analysis of the political rivalry between liberals and conservatives, based on the novel One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel García Márquez. Focused on the character of Colonel Aureliano Buendía, the analysis shows the transformations in the relations with the other as violence takes different roles in the character's life, which can be summarized in three archetypes: the hero, the god and the defeated.
