520 |a A diocese has received notice from the civil authorities that an active criminal investigation is underway regarding a priest. Although the diocese has had no contact with the victim, it has been given sufficient information from the civil authorities to initiate its own investigative procedures. The civil authorities have requested, however, that the diocese not undertake its formal ecclesiastical investigation until its own criminal investigation has been completed. Can this priest be placed on an "administrative leave" in accord with diocesan procedures during the course of the investigation by the civil authorities, or must the diocese wait until their investigation has been completed before taking any action of its own?
