AB This article offers some basic theological reflections on the protection of life from a Protestant perspective. The starting point is the biblical conviction that God is the Creator of all life. Life is therefore to be understood as a gift from God. At the same time, life is a deeply relational concept, which is why bioethical considerations on the protection of life must always be considered together with socio-ethical considerations. At the same time, life defies dear definitions and uncontroversial interpretations. What this means in concrete terms for the debate on the protection of human life will finally be developed and justified on the basis of the exclusive particle of the Reformation and thus within the horizon of the Protestant doctrine of justification.
