| Summary: | This paper aims to explore the hidden reasons behind the charges of sodomy brought against bishop Adaulfo II of Iria-Santiago according to the testimony of the Historia Compostellana. In that regard, the socio-political context of the Asturian kingdom of the 9th century will be taken in consideration, as well as the family origin of the prelate. The discussion around the convert nature of the bishop will be reopened. Also, the appropriateness of the application of the Gothic examen questionis to his case. Finally, a tombstone inscription allegedly associated with his person will be discarded as proof of his ancestry. El presente artículo aspira a explorar las razones ocultas tras la acusación de sodomía que experimentó el obispo don Adaulfo II de Iria-Santiago según el testimonio recogido por la Historia Compostellana. Para ello se prestará atención al contexto sociopolítico del reino asturiano del siglo IX, así como al origen familiar del prelado. Se reabrirá la discusión en torno a la naturaleza conversa del mitrado, al igual que la pertenencia de la aplicación del examen questionis de la legislación goda a su caso. Por último, se descartará como prueba de su ascendencia una supuesta lauda sepulcral asociada erróneamente a su persona. |
