| Riepilogo: | The article addresses the ethical and social challenges related to prenatal diag nosis (PND) employing the concepts of “responsible parenthood” and “human dignity” as ethical benchmarks. The ambivalence of prenatal diagnostic testing is becoming more and more apparent while at the same time there needs to be a critical analysis of the scientistic technification of pregnancy. The view of a (supposedly) optimizing effect of PND on pregnancy and childbirth is confronted here with the notion of a “culture of mindfulness” towards the disabled life. From this point of view, the authors formulate clear reservations about a possible inclusion of new non-invasive blood tests (such as PraenaTest*) into the national health insurance’s catalogue of benefits. |
