Cet article montre comme le processus mimétique est le véritable invariant du religieux, méconnu malheureusement par les cultures, par la philosophie depuis Platon et, de nos jours, par les sciences de l'homme. Loin de rendre toute distinction impossible au sein du religieux, seule la reconnaissance de ce même processus peut révéler l'opposition irréductible entre les mythes qui reposent sur l'illusion d'une victime coupable, et le judéo-chrétien qui reconnaît le rôle de la violence protectrice dans nos cultures. Fruit de cette subversion, le monde présent est à la fois le plus dangereux qui fut jamais et le plus riche en possibilités. Behind myths, Biblical dramas and the four Gospel accounts, one can detect violent social crises which culminate in the unanimous polarization against single victims, a so-called «scapegoat», whose violent expulsion pacifies the communities. The present article shows how this mimetic process, the one and only religious invariant, is systematically ignored by all human cultures, by philosophers since Plato and in our days by the social sciences. Far from making all distinctions impossible among religions, the acknowledgment of this process reveals the irreducible opposition between myths which are founded on the illusion of a guilty victim, and the Judeo-Christian dramas which acknowledge the innocence of the scapegoat and gradually subvert the role of protective violence in human cultures. Because our present world is the fruit of this subversion, it is both the most dangerous that ever was and the one with the greatest possibilities. | ||
