Often called into question, the grant was finally abol-ished in 1869. Though costing the state very little, this affair reflected, among other things, the opposition between the two major political tendencies of the time - Catholics and Liberals -, which, over the decades, put an end to the unionism of 1830. Not to mention the "fear of the Jesuits". | ||
| 520 | |a Dès sa reconstitution en 1837, la Société des Bollandistes reçut un subside annuel de la part du gouvernement belge: c'était une oeuvre "nationale" et de qualité. Mais très tôt, des voix s'élevèrent, en particulier au sein du monde poli-tique libéral, contre cette subvention: fallait-il que le gouvernement subsidie une telle entreprise dirigée par les Jésuites ? Souvent remise en question, cette allocation fut finalement supprimée en 1869. Mais derrière cette affaire - somme toute peu coû-teuse pour l'État - s'exprimait, entre autres, l'opposition entre les deux grandes ten-dances politiques du moment - catholiques et libéraux - qui, au fil des décennies, mirent fin à l'unionisme de 1830. Sans oublier la "peur des Jésuites". | ||
