Le principal est un doublon surprenant : Is 6, 6-8 est commenté deux fois, les deux interprétations étant juxtaposées, sans transition. Cette bizarrerie ne s’accorde guère avec le soin dont fait preuve Basile dans la composition de ses ouvrages. Les deux exégèses, au demeurant, se complètent. En outre, une lecture proprement théologique de l’acclamation des Séraphins en Is 6, 3 est absente. Ce silence serait étonnant chez Basile, le grand expert en théologie trinitaire. Peut-être l’auteur n’a-t-il pas voulu prendre parti dans la querelle à propos de l’interprétation d’Origène, par égard pour ce dernier et par souci de ne pas s’opposer à la lecture devenue majoritaire. Dans l’ensemble du chapitre l’influence d’Origène est manifeste, par la méthode (recours à l’allégorie, à l’étymologie, au texte de Théodotion) et par la doctrine. Le rejet de l’interprétation cosmologique des Séraphins vise sans doute Clément d’Alexandrie. Une exégèse christologique d’Is 6, 6 rencontre celle de Cyrille d’Alexandrie. Plusieurs développements appartiennent au genre des questions - réponses. L’ensemble a tous les caractères d’un commentaire savant. | ||
| 520 | |a The genuineness of the Commentary on Isaiah which is ascribed to Basilius of Caesarea is still subject of a controversy. The exegesis of the sixth chapter of Isaiah offers some reasons to deny its authenticity. The first one lies in a surprising repetition: Is 6, 6-8 is commented upon twice. The two explanations are simply juxtaposed, without any transition. That oddness scarcely tallies with Basilius’ skillful art of composition. The second explanation however enriches the first one. Moreover, the lack of theological exegesis of Is 6, 3 would be astonishing if Basilius, the great expert in trinitarian theology, was the author. Perhaps the commentator did not want to side explicitly against Origen’s exegesis of the verse. Origen’s influence is obvious about the whole chapter 6 of Isaiah, in consideration of method (making use of allegory, etymology and textual criticism) and of doctrine. The cosmological interpretation of the Seraphim is rejected, probably against an opinion of Clement. A christological exegesis of Is 6, 6 meets with Cyril of Alexandria. Many expositions belong to the style of questions and answers. The whole has all the characters of a scholarly commentary. | ||
