L’article présente d’abord le concept de reconnaissance, en s’appuyant sur la recherche d’Axel Honneth, avant de s’intéresser à la spécificité de la notion d’honneur, notamment dans la pensée d’Anthony Cunningham. Finalement, la réflexion porte sur le rôle de la notion d’honneur en théologie. Cette notion exprime le désir profond de pouvoir se percevoir soi-même comme une personne intègre, et d’être reconnu et estimé comme une telle personne, de la part des autres. Cette quête d’honneur peut être comprise comme un des « droits de la vie naturelle » de l’être humain. Dans la justification, Dieu reconstitue l’honneur du pécheur, malgré les échecs de sa vie personnelle. 
520 |a We are currently seeing a return to the concept of honour, both in philosophical ethics and in theological ethics. The article begins by presenting the concept of recognition, drawing on the research of Axel Honneth, before looking at the specific nature of the notion of honour, particularly in the thought of Anthony Cunningham. Finally, we shall consider the role of the notion of honour in theology. This notion expresses the profound desire to be able to perceive oneself as a person of integrity, and to be recognised and esteemed as such by others. This quest for honour can be understood as one of the "natural rights of life" of the human being. Through justification, God restores the sinner’s honour, despite the failures of his or her personal life.
