| Summary: | The study objective is to explain the socio-historical evolution of a capitalist evangelical ethic (Pentecostal and Neo-Pentecostal) with reference to developmentalism and neo-liberalism in contemporary Chile. For this purpose, the research is oriented by a Weberian inspiration, starting from the projection of the classic thesis on the link between Calvinism and capitalism to a dissimilar historical, theological and economic context. By means of the analysis of the available historical documentation (Pentecostal magazines) and of the interviews conducted (pastors and businessmen) we conclude a certain validity of Weber on the socio-historical importance predestination belief, beyond the evident doctrinal rationalization differences between Calvinism and Pentecostalism. The main contrast is that, contrary to the original theory, the economy prevails as a culture modeling factor, therefore the theoretical interest gives way to functionalist or constructivist theory considerations explain religion as legimitation or systemic stabilization criterion., El objetivo del estudio es explicar la evolución sociohistórica de una ética evangélica capitalista con referencia al desarrollismo y al neoliberalismo en el Chile contemporáneo. Para tal efecto, la investigación se orienta por una inspiración weberiana, a partir de la actualización de la clásica tesis sobre el vínculo entre calvinismo y capitalismo, proyectándose a un escenario histórico, teológico y económico disímil. Por medio del análisis de la documentación histórica disponible (revistas pentecostales) y de las entrevistas realizadas (pastores y empresarios) se concluye que existe cierta proyección sociohistórica de la creencia en la predestinación, más allá de las evidentes diferencias de racionalización doctrinaria, entre el calvinismo y pentecostalismo. El principal contraste es que, a la inversa de la teoría original, prevalece la economía como factor modelador de la cultura; por tanto, el interés teórico da paso a consideraciones funcionalistas o constructivistas para explicar la religión como criterio de legitimación o estabilización sistémica. |
