Une étude d’ecclésiologie historique montre que cette bipartition du pouvoir, méconnue du premier millénaire, qui est apparue au haut Moyen-Âge et s’est ensuite imposée progressivement, n’a pas été retenue dans les textes conciliaires, qui lui ont préféré la tripartition des munera de sanctification, d’enseignement et de gouvernement. Le sacrement est donc l’unique source du pouvoir dans l’Église, qui s’exerce différemment selon qu’il a été reçu dans le baptême ou l’ordination. | ||

Indeed, the origin of power can be placed either in the order, that is, the sacrament, or in jurisdiction, that is, the mission received from ecclesiastical authority. A study of historical ecclesiology reveals that this bipartition of power, unnoticed in the first millennium, emerged in the early Middle Ages and gradually gained prominence but was not endorsed in the conciliar texts. Instead, the council favored the tripartition of the munera of sanctification, teaching, and governance.
