Item Description:He hath anointed me to preach the Gospel to the poor. He sent me to heal the contrite of heal. The above words appear on the arch above the National Shrine's altar to St. Vincent. The text is adapted from the answer Christ gave to a delegation sent Him by John the Baptist. In bas-relief in the Botticino marble roundel above the altar St. Vincent is shown ministering to a poor dying man. Against a background of red Rojo Alicante marble stands a life size figure that does justice to his great spirit. The statue is strong; yet it compellingly conveys his feeling of tenderness
