Description
Item Description:This church was built of native marl about 1697. During the Siege of 1781 the church was used as a powder magazine by the British. The church was partly burned inthe great fire of 1814 and was rebuilt in 1825. During the War Between the States, it served as a hospital for the Union Army. Among the graves in the churchyard are those of members of the Nelson family, prominent inthe history of the Virginia Colony. The church was restored in 1926
