Item Description:Abbeville was founded in 1758 and possesses a truly historical background. It was here the first meeting towards Secession from the Union was held and here, too, that Confederate President Jefferson Davis held his last Council of War with his fill Cabinet. John C. Calhoun was a native of Abbeville and practiced law here for a number of years. There has been a gradual transition from agriculture to industry in recent years and today a good balance exists between the two
