| Item Description: | The Riverside Church of the City of New York, formerly the Park Avenue Baptist Church, opened for worship in October, 1930, and dedicated in February, 1931. The edifice occupies a commanding site on Riverside Drive at 122nd Street, almost opposite Grant's Tomb. The Cathedral of Chartres (A. D. 1194-1260) was the inspiration for the French Gothic architecture of the building. The auditorium accommodates 2500 people. The tower of the church houses the Laura Spelman Rockefeller Memorial Carillon consisting of seventy-two bells |
