Description
Item Description:The Cathedral of St. John the Divine on Morningside Heights, when completed will be the noblest ecclesiastical building in America, rivaling the grand cathedrals of England and the continent. Planned more than fifty years ago, its corner stone was laid on St. John's Day, in 1892, by Bishop Henry C. Potter. Its architecture is of French Gothic style, the beauty of its loft towers only equaled by the splendor of its arches, its carvings, its statuary and its chapels. Cram & Ferguson are the architects. This great center of the Episcopal Church under Bishop Wm. T. Manning of the Diocese of New York, is costing millions, contributed in gifts large and small by the generous of all faiths and walks in life
