| Item Description: | St. John's Church, Chapel Street. In 1732 Queen's Chapel was erected on Strawberry Bank. Named in honor of Queen Caroline, who presented chapel with a service of plate stamped with the Royal Arms. Present building erected in 1807-1808. Contains interesting memorials and one of the four American copies of the "Vinegar Bible." Bell brought by Sir William Pepperell in 1745 as part of plunder from Louisburg. Recast by Paul Revere in 1806. Pew occupied by Daniel Webster is marked. President Washington and his secretary, Tobias Lear, occupied the Governor's pew |
