Item Description:Parish organized in 1821. Bishop Ravenscroft, first Bishop of North Carolina, was for the first five years of his Bishopric also the first rector of Parish. His remains under the chancel of the church. Present church built in 1849. Designed by Richard M. Upjohn, noted English architect, who designed Trinity Church, head of Wall St., New York. Christ Church said to be the finest specimen of Gothic architecture in the South. Parish has had but three rectors during past ninety years
