About 2 miles West of Frederick, Md., is located the Peter Kemp home, the birthplace of the denomination. On Sept. 25, 1800, a group of ministers formally organized the Church of the United Brethren in Christ (now the Evangelical United Brethren Church). Centennial Memorial Church observed its rebirth during the Centennial observance of 1900
