Item Description:Masonic Temple and Emmanuel Episcopal Church [Presbyterian Church, in background]. Site of Fort Cumberland, Built in 1755. - Fort Cumberland was used by General Braddock and George Washington as a base of operations during the campaign against the French and Indians. Parade grounds were in the rear of the church. Subterranean passageway leads to the river, so that the fort could be supplied with water during a siege
