Item Description:Old Christ Church, Founded 1733. In November, 1732, the good ship Ann sailed from Gravesend on the Thames with colonists under command of James Edward Oglethorpe, to establish the Colony of Georgia. Oglethorpe was directed to lay out "a site for the Church," which was done July 7, 1733, on the present site, corner of Bull and Congress Streets. The first building was commenced March 25, 1740; it was completed and dedicated in 1750
