Le site a été fouillé et identifié comme un ancrage sur lequel une superstructure a été construite. Les pierres d’amarrage étaient utilisées pour sécuriser et protéger les navires des tempêtes du sud de la mer Morte. Après avoir revisité le site, j’en conclus qu’il a été construit sur la terre ferme et protégé par un brise-lames qui créait des lagunes pour les navires. Il a probablement été utilisé comme point de contrôle pour le trafic maritime sur la mer Morte pendant la période du Second Temple. | ||
| 520 | |a After reading Bar-Adon’s unpublished excavation log and revisiting the Rujm el-Bahr site, I have new insights relating to the construction, identification and significance of the breakwater, tombolo and structure. The site was excavated and identified as an anchorage on which a superstructure was built. Mooring stones were used to secure and protect ships from southern Dead Sea storms. After revisiting the site, I conclude that it was built on land, and protected by a breakwater that created lagoons for ships. It was likely used as a checkpoint for sailing traffic on the Dead Sea during the Second Temple period. | ||
