520 |a For the Syrian and Armenian Churches it was a unique value to use, to follow and to copy the pseudo-apostolic and conciliar disciplinary text, causing several canonical collections. These early collections - togehter with the ancient councils - defined the fundament of the universal canonical discipline in the Oriental and in the Occidental ecclesiastical legislation, and became indispensable basis of the new, strucuralized canon law collections too. This is particularly true concerning the Syntagma Canonum which played a fundamental role in the development of the Armenian ecclesiastical discipline. The most important pre-Chalcedonian councils - whose materials made essential influence on the later canonical norms and practice in the East and in the West - can be found in very early text-form in the Armenian version of the Syntagma Canonum. More than half of the afore-mentioned canonical materials - basically through the Collectio Dionysio-Hadriana - had taken place in the Decretum Gratiani.
