Description
Summary:The Egyptian martyr St Chamoul (BHO vacat) is known chiefly through a Coptic Martyrdom in the hagiographical cycle of St Julius of Khebehs (Aqfahṣ). Three new fragments of the text of its sole witness, a papyrus codex of the 6th or 7th cent., are published here; more substantial remains (BL, Or MS Papyrus V) have long been known. After an introductory discussion of the codex and a synthesis of the available information on the martyr, a re-edition and translation of the Martyrdom including the new fragments is provided.
