Starting with the question: "Why a film about Jesus?", this study retraces Pier Paolo Pasolini's intentions in translating the Gospel according to Matthew into the film language. Starting with Husserl's hyletica, there is proposed here a particular reading of "the sacred" in Pasolini's work and life. This reading puts into relief the importance that the sacred, in its most archaic sense, has there, as highlighted by the images Pasolini calls forth. Finally, invoking the category of "exhibition" (esposizione) there is here an invitation to examine the possible autobiographical sense of the film The Gospel According to Sr. Matthew. |
