520 | |a The return from exile is described in the book of Jeremiah by different images. Among them is that of ]er 31:8 in which the people are presented as a pilgrimage made up of a blind and a lame, a pregnant woman and one in labor. This article tries to interpret the image in a oherent way within the context of the poem in which it is found. A first hypothesis is that the lind and the lame, the pregnant woman and the one in labor are excluded from worship, ut that they are forgiven by God and reinstated. Despite its merits, this hypothesis does not ntirely fit within the context. A second hypothesis takes as its starting point the metaphorical ramework of God as father of the people. This, we will argue, allows us to give a complete and oherent interpretation of the poem as a whole. Therefore, we would be resolving that which he previous hypothesis failed to attain
