Summary: | The numerous quotations from Ruusbroec’s works by Georges Lemaître show his admiration for and his knowledge of the Brabant mystic. They unerringly touch at the core of Ruusbroec’s teaching. Moreover, the quotations were assiduously copied, which is not easy, as these texts are not modern but medieval Dutch with its orthographical and morphological particularities. This did not deter Lemaître from making a very readable copy. Moreover, the alternative translations he proposes in quotation 6, reveal his ambition to render the original text as faithfully as possible, even if that means distancing himself from the standard translation of Ruysbroeck, Oeuvres. |
