To collaborate with and train faith communities (fc), counselors need to understand the protective factors in fc. A purposive sample of 26 faith leaders and congregants completed interviews. The analysis yielded five protective factors (a safe, connected community, a skilled, equipped community, a well-networked community, life-affirming teaching, and personal and communal spiritual practices) and four obstacles in fc, who need the assistance of counselors to build their capacity to provide their unique protective factors. Recommendations for counselors are made. | ||
