Un examen terminologique peut permettre, au regard du contexte archéologique des documents disponibles, de préciser la portée liturgique, sacramentaire ou institutionnelle des trois termes grecs employés dans les provinces du Proche-Orient proto-byzantin : diakonikon (διακονίκον), baptistèrion (βαπτιστήριον) ou phôtistèrion (φωτιστήριον). Nettement le plus fréquent dans la région, ce dernier vocable semble mieux répondre à la théologie biblique qui s’affirme alors, comme au souci de désigner le parcours complet de l’initiation chrétienne. | ||

When compared to the archaeological context of the available documents, a terminological examination may allow to specify the liturgical, sacramental or institutional significance of the three Greek terms used in the proto-Byzantine provinces of the Middle East: diakonikon (διακονίκον), baptistèrion (βαπτιστήριον), and phôtistèrion (φωτιστήριον). Without contest the most frequent in the region, the latter seems to respond better to the Biblical theology then asserting itself, as well as to the concern to designate the complete course of the Christian initiation. | ||
