Description
Summary:The high social participation in the Holy Week parades projected onto them the transformations associated with the convulsive and prolonged implantation of bourgeois liberalism in substitution of the Ancient Regime. Thus, a society such as Granada, which was debating in the transition from the 19th to the 20th century between the legacies of the past and future aspirations, had to consider who, when, where and how should participate in the commemoration of Holy Week, as well as as what utility and what ultimate meaning should have their parades. This article reflects on the responses given to these questions by Granada society from the recognition of freedom of worship after the "Revolución Gloriosa" to the Bourbon Restoration and the reenactment of the alliance between the throne and the altar.
