An extended analysis of the strange word that Aubigné uses to describe his historiographical stance - "astorge" - reveals that far from being complementary, the two conceptions of historical truth that underlie these two works - one political, the other theological - are in fact profoundly incompatible in the context in which Aubigné sought to intervene. | ||
