Описание
Итог:In chapter 14 of her 1931 novel, The Good Earth, Pearl S. Buck juxtaposes two episodes in the life of Wang Lung, her protagonist. Wang Lung encounters a Christian missionary and a Marxist activist. However, both the missionary and the activist fail to reach Wang Lung. This article explores the way in which Buck depicts the failure of the missionary and the activist, discussing the shared “critical” element of Christianity and Marxism and the ways in which both the missionary and the activists may have been more successful than they may have realized.
