A Study on the Reincarnation Theory and Its Authenticity from a Perspective of Yogacara Thought

| 520 | |a From a yogacara thought perspective, this study set a simple attribute model of reincarnation and, using modern knowledge of life science and psychoanalysis, explored authenticity of the karma theory and reincarnation of the 8th consciousness(alaya) based on the model. Results of this study can be summarized as follows: First, as the karma theory asserts the birth of life is necessarily dependent on karma, so it runs counter to the theory of evolution. Second, the principle of the theory that karma spans the past, present and future generations cannot be applied if the theory of karma is a hypothesis that cannot be proved. Third, if the karma theory loses its explanatory power, the foundation for the establishment of the reincarnation through the alaya will also collapse. Fourth, since it is impossible to remember the previous life itself by reincarnation through the alaya, the reincarnation of the alaya should be distinguished from the previous life memory. Based on these results, this study suggested a need for reinterpretation of karma theory and reincarnation theory. | ||
