AB Colwell, Ernest Cadman (19.1.1901 Hallstead, PA – 24.9.1974 Deland, FL). Neutestamentler und Hochschuladministrator, Prof. an der Universität von Chicago 1930–1951 (Präsident 1945–1951), Fakultätsdekan an der Emory Universität, Atlanta, GA 1951–1957, Präsident der School of Theology at Claremont, Claremont, CA 1957–68. Zus. mit Harold R.Willoughby (1890–1962) war C. an der krit. Edition von ntl. Hsn. beteiligt (The Four Gospels of Karahissar, 1936; The Elizabeth Day McCormick Apocalypse, 1940). Bekannt wurde C. durch seine Beiträge zur Textkritik (: II.). Hier erwies sich C. als Initiator neuer Ansätze zur Klassifizierung von Hsn. (sog. »Claremont Profile Method«). Als Hochschuladministrator beeinflußte C. nachhaltig den Ausbau theol. Ausbildungsstätten nach dem 2. Weltkrieg.
