La storia dell’interpretazione di un termine ebraico raro ( עפלים ) e di una parola greca comune (ἕδραι) mostra come l’interferenza tra le varie versioni antiche porti alla creazione del significato. A sua volta, l’etimologia viene piegata a giustificare un significato già stabilito. I moderni dizionari riproducono informazioni comparse secoli prima della nascita della linguistica storica e comparata; però, oggi vengono viste all’interno di rapporti genetici (e purtroppo semantici) tra le lingue semitiche. | ||

An example is the common term ἕδρα which means seat, but which is translated «buttocks». The etymologies are selected to justify an already established meaning. This article reconstructs the history of the translation of the term in Greek and Hebrew vocabularies from the sixteenth century to the present day. The newer ones copy from the previous ones and sometimes provide incorrect information. To understand the Greek version, one must not look to the Hebrew, but to the Coptic and Ethiopian versions. | ||
