Although the declarations of faith are fairly stable, since May 2005 the percentage of people describing themselves as religiously indifferent or unbelieving has increased five times, whereas declarations of unbelief have doubled (an increase from 3,6% to 7,4 %). The number of people describing themselves as atheists is still too small to be analyzed on the basis of representative national surveys, however some attempts are being made to find out more about this group. This article presents the results of such an attempt. The transformation of Polish religiosity and characteristics of people describing themselves as non-believers are analyzed on the basis of aggregated data sets from representative nationwide research. The author seeks to answer the question of atheists’ beliefs and their value system as well as differences in personal and public morality between believers and non-believers. | ||
