| Summary: | Religiousness and spirituality are both multifaceted terms for which extensive literature reviews indicate three main avenues, as to how they may be approached. The first states that these terms are in fact synonymous. The other, that these two terms however reveal contrasting views, where spirituality is either a wider concept than religiousness or conversely, and that religiousness is a broader term than spirituality. In addition, some aspects of spirituality are directly related to religiousness, but others are considered as independent. Historically speaking, more attention has been devoted by researchers to spirituality compared with religiousness; the use of the latter is now dwindling. This article focuses on examining the similarities and differences, the current trends of use together with their historical origins. |
